USF Health Information Systems

2012 - 2013, UI Designer + Web Developer

About the company + my role..

USF Health IS is the on-campus technology team for the Health side of the University of South Florida!
As a UI designer and developer I designed sites based on client needs, and also helped them write the medical content of their websites. Additionally, I helped maintain existing USF Health sites.

Technologies I used were..

  • Balsamiq
  • Photoshop
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • jQuery
  • C#
  • ASP.NET

Lots to do!

At USF Health IS I was responsible for maintaining, redesigning and coding a subset of department websites under the College of Medicine. Department websites included Cardiology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Orthopaedics + Sports Medicine.

Keeping it accessible

I helped write new content and maintain these sites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery. The sites were built within a content management system, which was built with ASP.NET and C#. The content management system had built-in version control. I frequently met with our “clients” (doctors and department heads!) and the USF Health marketing team to determine what content and images were needed for department pages. When designing and developing, it was important that the code was tested thoroughly on older IE browsers, as many patients relied on that browser. This browser testing was vital, as patients who were unable to sign up for appointments in their browser may otherwise be untreated. When building sites, considering the needs of our users was always the top priority! Large text, distinct differences between text and links, and clear calls to action were of the utmost importance. Designing for ease of use and accessibility was a top priority at all times.
